Cactus Town Board Game Review

Polyhedron Collider Cactus Town Review

Don’t be so easily misled by this game's appearance.  The cartoon standees, the bright colours, or even the name, Cactus Town is a surprise of simple asymmetry.  A simple ruleset, a skewed action programming system and a Western movie-style theme all come together to create a dog, cat, mouse and cheese game of chase that unfolds into a fun story told in under an hour.

Architects of the West Kingdom Review

For me, whenever someone mentions an architect, I get an image in my mind of a slender chap in a city centre studio apartment, wearing a rollneck top, rimless glasses, slicked back greying hair and a taste for jazz. Tinderblox & Kittin Kickstarter Review

Polyhedron Collider Kitten and Tinderblox Boardgame Kickstarter Review

Dexterity games, it seems are on the up and up, and mint tin games are cool too.  And cats, (nearly) everyone loves cats.  And fire.  Let's face it fire has always been cool.  So here comes two mint tin dexterity games about flaming cats...no, one about cats and another about fire.

Both games are about stacking components, but they come at this goal from difficult angles, one is about speed and precision, and the other is about careful and considered balance.

Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write Review

Imperial Settlers Roll and Write Board Game Review

Imperial Settlers Roll & Write has been fermenting on my game shelf and in my brain since I picked up a copy at the UK Games Expo 2019.  In fact, the review I started writing in the summer of 2019 is very different from the one you are about to read.  Most odd of all though is that aspects of the game that caused me some vexation and annoyance are some that I now see and appreciate the value in.

There should still be some tokens in the box though, that hasn’t changed.

And a pencil sharpener (if you have a pencil in the box there should also be a means to sharpen it - and if it’s a plastic moulded insert there damn sure needs to be space for a pencil sharpener!).
